linkedin ghostwriting case study

from 1600 followers to 4000+ – and double digit pipeline growth

Snapshot

A founder in the renewable energy sector had deep industry credibility but a limited LinkedIn presence: fewer than 1,700 followers, virtually no organic content presence for the company, and a loose collection of posts. A few performed well but most disappeared without stirring much attention.

In less than a year, I helped turn his industry opinions and business successes into a consistent stream of expert LinkedIn thought leadership. Impressions grew by an average of 10% month over month, while his follower count increased from around 1,600 to more than 4,200.

APPROACH

A content strategy built around domain expertise. The work focused on executive-led thought leadership content, structured for LinkedIn consumption. The challenge was taking highly-specialized source material, from client interviews and in-house research, and turning it into platform-native storytelling. The founder’s expertise provided the substance; my role was to find the angle, shape the narrative and make complex ideas accessible without diluting technical credibility.

Continuous, data-informed improvement. Every month I delivered an analytics report tracking engagement, follower growth and impressions. Once we had built a library of high-performing posts, I used AI-assisted analysis to examine the top 20 and identify recurring patterns in hook type, word count, paragraph structure and tagging. I then applied editorial judgment to develop a repeatable playbook for new content.

Lite-touch stakeholder management. As a busy founder with limited bandwidth, I designed a workflow that maximised his input while minimising the time required. Draft posts were deliverd in batches for quick approval, and I worked from existing materials wherever possible to avoid over-scheduling interviews. I also compiled a monthly “what we’ll keep doing / what we’ll do differently” report. That facilliated faster decisions and eliminated lengthy back-and-forth emails.

Results

The plan concentrated budget in a series of five high-performing thought leadership pieces published on a bi-monthly cadence. Most notable among these was a single asset that drove more than $6 million in new pipeline opportunities over a roughly 6-month period.

Developed entirely without AI, the staggered content campaign reinforced the value of premium, copy-driven marketing connected to real CDO priorities.

Key metrics:

  • $21M+ in total enterprise pipeline opportunities generated

  • $6M in pipeline driven by a single long-form content asset

  • Sustained lead generation more than 12 months after launch

  • Core assets continuously refreshed and re-versioned across channels

  • Ongoing engagement with a global audience of senior data leaders

  • Big business impact from a realtively small number of flagship pieces
